challenges that they had to face:
Richard Arkwright was born on the 23rd of December in 1732, and later on died
on the 3rd of August in 1792. Arkwright was an important figure in the Industrial
Revolution, he is often considered the “father” of the new factory system. Born in Preston,
England, his inventions completely changed the textile industry, transforming low,
inefficient production speed to a high-speed manufacturing process. This essay consists
about what his main goals and ideas were during his life, significant inventions,
challenges he faced, and to conclude, a brief comparison to Henry Ford.
Richard Arkwright’s ideas for the industrial economy were incredible, although he
specialized in his home-country, England, it revolutionized Europe, including “Catalunya”.
His inventions such as the “water frame” back in 1769 changed the textile industry by
inventing mass production of cotton threads. This simple, yet efficient machine, powered
by only water, increased technical innovations in a factory, later on many people
recognized his ideas and a couple of years later everyone was using his inventions in the
factories.
Although, he wasn’t only specialized in the textile industry. His fame created other job
opportunities, and completely assisted the whole community of manufacturing with his
work by spreading economic growth during this hard and cold Industrial Revolution
period. By having diverse genders working in his factories, men and women, he helped
men have different points of view on the significance and importance of women to the
economy, improving socially and economically.
Although, Arkwright had to go through many challenges. He participated in many legal
battles to protect his projects from other possible competitors who wanted to replicate his
inventions. In addition, he also had to fight against artisans and workers that specialized
in the production, since his inventions were removing the necessity of these jobs,
replacing machines for humans in the 18th century. Managing big factories also had its
difficulties, because factories' health conditions were not so friendly, leading to unethical
disputes from his own workers to his factory. But, even after all of these obstacles in
Arkwright’s way, he managed to be resilient, and made sure his innovations would surely
influence future inventions on the industrial movement.
